Maidstone, the county town of Kent, has a medieval core by the Medway, late Georgian streets around Holy Trinity and Bearsted's old village green. We are family-run builders with over 20 years of work across Kent and the South East. We take on practical jobs here too: a roofing repair or a full re-roof, a fresh coat of paint outside, or a garden and patio you can use all year. We also take on house extensions, period restoration, new homes and complete refurbishments.
Our painters and decorators finish exteriors in the Dulux Weathershield system, which carries an 8 year paint protection guarantee. Carpentry, joinery, plumbing, heating, electrics, plastering and decorating are handled by our own people, and long-standing subcontractors cover the rest. The owner is on every job at some point in the week, and the person who quotes your work is someone you will see on site. Site surveys and written quotations are free.
Our Services
Each service below links to photos of finished work. Alongside roofing, decorating and landscaping, Maidstone clients can call on us for kitchens and bathrooms, groundworks, barn conversions, swimming pools, and commercial or agricultural buildings.
Maidstone grew up beside the River Medway, in country long quarried for Kentish ragstone, a hard grey limestone. Medieval accounts record Maidstone stone going to the Tower of London and to Rochester Castle, and All Saints Church, begun in 1395, is built of ragstone ashlar. Ragstone is still cut as building stone at Hermitage Quarry near the town. The town centre conservation area covers most of the medieval core on the east bank of the river, and the Holy Trinity conservation area beside it grew as a late Georgian and early Victorian suburb.
Planning here sits with Maidstone Borough Council. Parts of the Loose Valley and the Holy Trinity area carry Article 4 Directions, which limit permitted development rights, so a change that needs no application in one street may need one in the next. Bearsted has conservation areas around its village green and around Holy Cross Church. North and north-east of the town, Boxley Vale and Detling Hill lie within the Kent Downs National Landscape. Allington, Barming, Tovil and Weavering now form part of the town, and Loose sits about 2 miles south, in the Loose Valley.
Recent Work
In Maidstone itself we built a single storey garden room extension with a new sandstone patio. In Tovil, a new Wren kitchen with solid quartz worktops and oak herringbone flooring went in alongside internal alterations and a single storey living and dining room extension. At Bearsted we fitted an en-suite bathroom with Lusso sanitaryware and Mandarin Stone tiles.
Detling has seen two very different jobs. One was groundworks: a steel reinforced concrete raft for a new build home. The other was a pair of oak framed garden buildings with Staffordshire blue brick and flint retaining walls, grey riven sandstone paving and new steps. In Chatham we laid a GRP fibreglass flat roof over OSB3 tongue and groove decking as a warm insulated roof, and in Marden we repaired external joinery, cleaned the roof and repainted the outside in Dulux Weathershield.
