Compared with its Wealden neighbours, Heathfield is a young town. It grew up near the railway station after 1880, so much of the older town is late Victorian, Edwardian or inter-war, built largely in brick, and houses of that age often need the kitchen and bathroom rethought. The walls may be sound, but the rooms were planned for another era. We are builders, family-run, with 20+ years behind us in Kent and the South East, and we take on that kind of job in Heathfield and the East Sussex villages around it.
The person who measures up and quotes for your job is on site once the work begins, and the owner drops in on the job each week. Our own people cover most trades, so a single contact runs everything. Send us a note about a new bathroom or kitchen in Heathfield and you will have a reply within two working days.
Kitchens and bathrooms sit alongside heavier work such as groundworks, roofing and barn conversions. One team plans and runs every service listed below, with plans drawn, planning applications written and building regulations paperwork prepared in-house.
Our Services
Heathfield stands high on a ridge of the High Weald, with long views south from around the High Street. The original village, now Old Heathfield, sits beyond Heathfield Park, while the present town grew near the station that opened in 1880. Very late Victorian and Edwardian buildings survive on the north side of the High Street, the south side followed between the wars, and local brickfields supplied much of the brick. On the south-west side the land falls away towards Waldron Gill, so gardens there can need retaining walls and steps before any patio goes down.
Planning is decided by Wealden District Council. Heathfield's centre has no conservation area, but Old Heathfield and Cade Street has one, as do Waldron and Mayfield. In those places permitted development rights are narrower, so period restoration and other changes need more care with the existing fabric. The countryside that surrounds Heathfield is part of the High Weald National Landscape, where the rules on extensions and cladding are tighter than in town. We work through the parish, including Cross-in-Hand, Broad Oak, Punnetts Town and Waldron, and on to Horam, Vines Cross and Mayfield.
Around Heathfield, our hard landscaping at Wadhurst produced a terrace patio in reclaimed Yorkstone, held by reclaimed ragstone retaining walls, with garden steps and soft planting. We have carried out groundworks at Wadhurst as well. In Etchingham we built brick and ragstone gate piers at a driveway entrance, ready for fabricated metal gates, and edged the drive in granite setts ready for its sandstone sett surface. A new access path there is laid in sandstone setts, and we have done groundworks and bathroom work in Etchingham too.
For work inside the house, look at our Tunbridge Wells jobs. A loft conversion there created two new double bedrooms and an en-suite bathroom, and our painters and decorators then decorated the conversion throughout. We have worked on a kitchen in Tunbridge Wells as well.
