Repointing a chimney stack in lime mortar, refurbishing sash windows and fitting a Shaker kitchen are all jobs we have finished in and around Canterbury. Our family firm has 20+ years of work behind it in Kent and the wider South East. We are builders in Canterbury for homeowners, businesses and farms, and every week the owner spends time on each job. In a city this old, we begin with a free site survey, so we see how a building was put together before anything is altered.
When you need roofers in Canterbury, kitchen fitting or painters and decorators, you deal with one point of contact. Our staff cover carpentry, joinery, plumbing, heating and electrics, along with plastering and decorating, and the people who quote the job are the people on site. House extensions and barn conversions follow the same pattern, with long-standing subcontractors brought in for the specialist trades.
Our Services

Canterbury Cathedral, St Augustine's Abbey and St Martin's Church together make up a World Heritage Site. The Romans built the first city walls, mainly of flint set in mortar, and the centre still holds many timber-framed houses from the 1500s and 1600s. Wartime bombing, worst on 1 June 1942, destroyed more than 700 homes, and rebuilding of the city centre began about ten years after the war. The city's biggest expansion came later, in the 1960s. Canterbury City Council handles planning across a district with nearly 100 conservation areas.
South east of the city, Bridge and Kingston lie in the Kent Downs National Landscape. Chartham, on the Great Stour to the south west, sits just outside its northern edge, and Bridge and Chartham both have conservation areas. Fordwich, on the Stour north east of the city, is the smallest community by population in Britain with a town council. Lime mortar lets a solid wall breathe, while hard cement pointing can trap damp inside it, and our repointing at Bridge, at Kingston and in the city was all done in lime. In Bridge, our leadwork on listed property has included a new parapet, a roof valley and replacement flashings.
Recent Work
At a Grade II listed Georgian property in Bridge we laid a new Code 6 lead parapet wall and roof valley, repaired the window joinery and lime render, and redecorated the outside. In Bridge too, a failed retaining wall was replaced with a double skin of steel reinforced concrete blockwork on a new foundation, faced in brick and flint, with drainage behind it. In Kingston, a listed house was repointed in lime and had new roof work in reclaimed Kent peg tiles at its gable end.
Also in Kingston, a disused barn became an annexe and home office with a new access driveway. In the city we refurbished sliding sash windows, repaired the external joinery and repainted the outside in Dulux Weathershield, backed by its 8 year paint protection guarantee. At Chartham, a Howdens Shaker kitchen went in with a quartz worktop and limed oak flooring.
